Spring is only a few weeks away and with it will come sunshine, blooming trees and bright, beautiful flowers! These are a few things I’ve desperately missed over the past five months. Thinking about all of that natural beauty inspired me to brighten up our home…and maybe (hopefully) entice spring to arrive sooner rather than later.
One of the easiest ways to freshen up any room is with plants. They instantly add life, energy and a pop of colour. And in our home colour is just what we need after this dreary cold winter!
I’ll be the first to admit I don’t have a very green thumb. I dream of having beautiful, lush flower beds in our yard, and growing our own vegetables to harvest. But the truth is I usually end up killing every flower and plant I touch.
So I set out to find some hardy plants that can survive pretty much anything. It turns out that succulents and ivy are pretty hard to kill, so these are now my plants of choice!
Ivy looks great popped into a simple white planter. I have a ton of these scattered around our living room and kitchen.
I got a little more creative with the succulents I bought. I’ve always wanted to create my own terrarium, so that’s exactly what I did!
I made one large terrarium and two smaller ones (I’m planning a post on how I created these for next week). They are such a fun way to display the uniqueness of each variety.
Sometimes I like to use faux plants for their convenience. I find Ikea has some great ones that look really realistic. I usually use these for rooms that don’t get much sunlight, or for those times when a room just needs a little pick-me-up!
I used the Ikea Fejka artificial plants along with their Oradd plant pots to liven up our dining room. I re-purposed the beautiful candle tray Nick built for me last year (see instructions on how to create it here) to display three potted plants. I love the way it instantly brightened up the room and made it feel a little more spring-like!
Now that the inside of our home reflects my current mood, I’m hoping the weather cooperates so that we can enjoy the same bright and beautiful greenery outside too!
