Today is an exciting day for me, my very sweet friend, Rachel from Shades of Blue Interiors is hosting a Spring Home Tour, and I am so thrilled to be joining an incredibly talented group of women to share with you how we are welcoming spring into our homes.
As another winter comes to an end, I eagerly welcome the coming spring. As a family, we begin to spend more time outdoors enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. And inside, we begin our annual spring refresh; cleaning, purging and organizing. It feels so good to rid our home of unnecessary clutter and breathe fresh life into it after a long, cold winter.
It’s around this time I begin to feel restless and ready for a change. I pack away our extra layers of blankets, fur throws and pillows so they are ready for next year, and I bring fresh accents and a few pretty little pops of color into the mix.
I’ve mentioned before that our kitchen is probably my favorite room in our home. We have put a lot of hard work and time into transforming it from a dull and dated space into the kitchen we’ve always hoped for (you can see the before and after pictures here).
I love how the sunlight always pours in through the patio doors, making it feel bright and welcoming, especially during the spring and summer months.
We recently re-painted our kitchen, taking the walls from beige to a beautiful light gray (you can see the difference here). Now, the neutral walls and crisp white cabinets are the perfect backdrop for playing with color. You’ll usually see a few pops of blue throughout this room, from our gorgeous and sentimental painting from a dear friend to our DIY window valance (one of our most asked about projects) and of course, a few vintage blue bottles displayed in our open shelves.
But come spring, I like to have fun adding in just a few more subtle colors, usually through fresh flowers, spring blooms and ripe fruit. In fact, that is my favorite tip for spring decorating. As the earth begins to awaken again, we are so lucky to be greeted with so much beauty and color from Mother Nature. Bringing in a simple floral arrangement of spring blooms or a big bowl of fresh fruit is a simple and inexpensive way to liven up your home. I especially like including potted spring flowers, like daffodils and hydrangeas, as you can plant the bulbs outside to be enjoyed year after year.
We recently refreshed our dining room and living room. It was a space I had struggled with decorating for a while, it never felt quite right. But now, it feels like an inviting, comfortable and lived-in space in our home. I shared my struggles and how I got the look I wanted here. Because we so recently redecorated these rooms, I didn’t change too much in this open-concept space for spring.
A simple centerpiece of vibrant pink and purple tulips arranged in a glass pitcher adds just the perfect amount of color to our neutral dining room. Again, I added a small bowl of fresh pears…they are our favorite afternoon snack.
I made just a few simple changes to our dining room hutch. I added some soft linens, a sweet (faux) bird’s nest and a ceramic berry basket filled with eggs amongst our white dinnerware. It’s always fun incorporating a few unexpected seasonal accents to this pretty hutch of ours.
Here is my sweet girl and her tiny pink bunny, they are both ready for spring!
Our living room is soft and comfortable with neutral gray couches and our beautiful buffalo check pillows. It’s my favorite place to curl up with a good book or the latest home decor magazine and relax with a refreshing drink (usually with fruit slices for a touch of extra flavor).
I hope you enjoyed our spring home tour, I had so much fun sharing it with you today. And in case you missed it, yesterday I shared a glimpse into our spring bedroom as well, I hope you’ll pop by to take a look.
