Make the most of autumn with these 10 family-friendly activities. And don’t forget to download our Fall Bucket List printable as a sweet reminder to get out and enjoy the season!
This year we started a new tradition with our girls. We take some time at the beginning of each season to create a bucket list. We write down all of the things we want to do in the months ahead so that we don’t miss any of the seasonal fun. It’s a great way to get the whole family involved and maybe learn a little bit more about the activities or traditions your kids love the most. And it’s nice to know you have activities planned that everyone in your family can look forward to.
I also found that keeping a seasonal bucket list really helps to keep us motivated. On the days that everyone is feeling a little bored, I pull out our list and we chose something new to do. At the start of a season, we always have so many plans and things we hope to do, but as the months pass by it’s easy to get busy and miss out on some of the things you were looking forward to the most.
Here’s a look at the 10 activities that made it on to our fall bucket list…
Visit a Pumpkin Patch
It’s always fun to gather the family up and head to a local pumpkin patch. Have some fun and let everyone pick their own pumpkin, whether it’s a perfectly round pumpkin or it’s misshapen and quirky everyone will have fun taking part.
Bake Your Favourite Pumpkin and Apple Treats
It just wouldn’t feel like autumn without the delicious aromas of the season drifting from your kitchen, right? I’m sure you have your favourites, but if you’re looking for some new treats to try we love our Pumpkin Loaf, Apple Crumble Muffins, Pumpkin Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookies, Harvest Apple Spice Donuts and you can’t go wrong with our Pumpkin Pie Baklava, it’s to die for!
Host a Costume Party
Whether it’s for your kiddos, adults-only or the whole family, everyone will love getting dressed up and celebrating.
Jump In a Pile of Leaves
Fun for the young or young at heart!
Pick Apples
Head to a local orchard to pick your own apples and once you’ve gathered your harvest head home and put those apples to use with some festive fall baking.
Write a List of Everything You’re Thankful For
It’s always important to take stock of the things you’re thankful for. Make sure to sit down as a family and chat about what’s on your list, we always love doing this close to Thanksgiving (or even during Thanksgiving dinner!).
Go On a Scenic Hike
One of my favourite fall activities. Hiking through a forest ablaze with the colours of autumn is bound to leave anyone feeling energized and inspired.
Make S’Mores Over a Campfire
Who says campfires are only for summer. Grab the essentials for s’mores, bundle up and have a cozy afternoon or evening around the fire. Don’t forget the hot chocolate!
Buy a Cozy Sweater
It’s sweater weather, so embrace the changing seasons with a few new essentials for your wardrobe. I like to take an afternoon and sort through all of our fall and winter clothes, then I can see what each of us needs for the months ahead to stay cozy, warm and of course, stylish.
Drink Pumpkin Spice Coffee
Warm your soul with a pumpkin spice coffee, tea or hot chocolate. No matter your preference, sipping on a pumpkin flavoured drink is sure to put you in the fall spirit.
Enjoy a Fall Picnic
Picnics are one of our favourite things to do, no matter the season (well, except during the winter months). Pack up all of your favourite picnic essentials, grab a big blanket and enjoy a day outside with family or friends indulging in delicious food and basking in that warm autumn sunshine.
Well, there you have it, our fall bucket list. I encourage you to sit down with your family (or on your own!) and jot down all of the things you hope to accomplish this fall. Or if you want, download and print our fall bucket list and tape it to your fridge as a pretty reminder to get out and have some fun this autumn!
