Traditional decorations, a neutral colour palette with hints of blue and green, and natural elements are at the heart of this Holiday Home Tour.
Every year around mid-November I begin decorating our home for the holiday season. I usually start slow, hanging wreaths and garlands, putting up our Christmas tree, and layering in art and textiles that reflect the season. Then I begin adding in the detail with special Christmas decor, like a shallow bowl filled with ornaments, a mix of bottle brush, ceramic and wood trees on tabletops, and our favourite holiday books displayed on the book ledge in the playroom. Finally, we decorate our tree as a family.
It usually takes me a few weeks to finish decorating and I always give myself time to move pieces around until I’m absolutely sure our home feels holiday-ready. And well a beautifully decorated home is not the point of the season, I love creating an inviting and festive space for our family and guests to celebrate in.
Our home this year is very similar to last year’s decor (see our Holiday Home Tour 2020 here). Traditional decorations, a neutral colour palette with hints of blue and green, and natural elements were our focus.
While I keep our holiday decor fairly simple, I do try to add a little bit of Christmas to every room in our home. I find it’s these little details that really make our house feel festive and invite the anticipation of the holiday. Whether it’s our girls’ own miniature trees in their bedrooms, a simple pine garland over our kitchen window, or our collection of bottle brush trees scattered throughout the house, I make sure no space is overlooked. Even the playhouse is decorated each year!
We hope you enjoy this year’s holiday home tour…
