Decorating for the changing seasons doesn’t have to be difficult. There are a few simple changes I make to our home each fall that add a subtle nod to the season.
Add Fall Foilage
As the seasons begin to shift from summer to fall, I love to bring some of the beauty into our home with cut branches, grasses, or dried flowers. We are lucky to live in a place with an abundance of beautiful trees and wild grasses to clip, but if you don’t have access to the real deal, there are so many beautiful faux options available.
Layer in Cozy Textiles
Incorporating a new pillow, throw or runner is another simple way to welcome fall into your home. Think about adding pieces in rich colours or heavier materials that are suited to the colder months ahead.
These could be a new purchase or pieces you stored away during the spring and summer.
Replace a Piece of Art
Swap out a piece of art with a print that reflects the changing seasons. I love to choose a beautiful vintage print online to print at home on canvas for an authentic vintage feel. We shared our tips for printing and framing prints here. It’s an easy and inexpensive way to add a little bit of rich fall colour and character to your home.
Incorporate Seasonal Elements
One of the easiest and most traditional ways to decorate for the fall season is with pumpkins, gourds, seasonal fruit, and plants. A bowl of pears on the kitchen counter, a basket of mums on the front porch, or a perfectly placed pumpkin are all easy and natural ways to decorate your home for autumn.
Add Ambience with Lighting
As the days shorten and we welcome more rainy weather, fall is the perfect time to think about adding or updating some of the lighting in your home. Add a new floor lamp to a dark corner or a miniature table lamp in the kitchen to add light and warmth to your space. A new lamp is an easy way to create that cozy and inviting feeling we all gravitate to this time of the year.
