Gifts for the little ones in our family are definitely my favourite gifts to shop for during the holiday season.
I put a lot of thought into these gifts and choose toys and activities that I think will spark their imagination and creativity. I also try to choose toys that are not only fun but are beautiful too. Handmade or heirloom quality goes a long way when it comes to the aesthetic of kids’ toys. I think there is something so special about gifting a child a toy that they will have for years to come, and hopefully, one day will pass down to the generations that follow them.
Favourite Shops for Kids’ Toys
Favourite Brands for Kids’ Toys
1. Wooden Dollhouse – A heirloom-quality wooden dollhouse makes the perfect gift to find under the tree on Christmas morning. Use our plans (plans coming soon) to build your own beautiful dollhouse or purchase this beautiful ready-made version and I promise it will provide hours of imaginative play for little ones.
2. Miniature Mice – Maileg is one of my favourite brands for kids’ toys. They have created some of the most magical and whimsical toys I’ve come across. From these adorable miniature mice to the perfect dollhouse accessories, their pieces will become collectibles that your children will pass down for generations.
3. Board Game – A classic board game, like Clue or Monopoly, is always a fun gift to receive. As our girls are growing older we are beginning to play more board games and I love introducing them to the classics.
4. Puzzle – Puzzles are the perfect activity to pull out when little ones are feeling bored. We have a lot of beautiful children’s puzzles but I can’t wait to add this one to our collection.
5. Stuffed Animal – We received our first cuddle+kind doll four years ago as a gift when Ella was born and we’ve been hooked ever since. These beautiful dolls are all handcrafted by women artisans in Peru, providing them with a sustainable, fair trade income. It’s definitely the gift that gives back.
6. Wooden Stable – This wooden fold-and-go stable is another favourite toy in our home. While it comes with a selection of horses, our girls prefer these horses instead. It’s a sweet toy that provides hours of fun and lets their imaginations run wild.
7. Book – We’ve read all four Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls books and cannot wait to jump into the fifth volume. It features stories of 100 young women and how they are making their mark on the world today.
8. Watercolour Paint Set – Last year we gifted our girls a set of watercolour paints and it continues to be one of their favourite activities when they are feeling creative. I love that it’s an easy activity to set up and is relatively mess-free, so it’s a win for parents too.
9. Magnetic Tiles – These colourful magnetic tiles are a construction toy system that allows kids to use their creativity and imagination to create various geometric structures. We have a set and both Nick and I love it just as much as the kids do! While we love the original, these ones are pretty amazing too!
10. Home Pottery Kit – I love gifting little one’s activities that will keep them busy and help foster their creativity. This home pottery kit is the perfect gift for the budding artist in your life.
11. Book Collection – Every Christmas we gift our girls a new book. We are a family that loves to read and we love adding beautiful stories to our collection. This set includes six classics with beautifully illustrated covers that will introduce little ones to these unforgettable stories.
12. Easel – Every playroom needs an art easel and this one has three ways to get creative, a chalkboard, a whiteboard, and a slot for adding a paper roll. Our art easel has lasted us many years and whether doodling, practicing their spelling, or getting lost in a game of school, it has provided endless hours of play.
