When it comes to holiday decorating, I prefer a subdued approach. I like to layer in pieces that add a subtle nod to the holiday season while helping our home feel inviting and cozy. And while I don’t go over the top, I do make sure every room in our home has a little bit of holiday spirit.
And the kitchen is an easy space to add those holiday touches.
Holiday Greenery
A vase filled with winter greens and a garland draped over the window is a simple way to incorporate holiday greenery into your kitchen.
I love keeping a statement vase on our island to fill with seasonal foilage, and Christmas is no exception. I used the ever-popular real-touch Norfolk pine branches to create this full and natural-looking arrangement. It’s simple and subdued and will carry through the Christmas season into the winter months.
For the past three years, I have draped a garland over the kitchen window and now it’s become a holiday custom in our home. I love that it adds a little bit of unexpected holiday cheer, especially if you add Christmas lights. There is nothing cozier than the glow of twinkle lights on those dark and snowy evenings.
Seasonal Art
If you’ve been following along for a while, you’ll know that swapping out art is one of my favourite ways to embrace the seasons. My favourite way to do this is to find a beautiful and inexpensive vintage print online (I’ve rounded up my favourites here), print it on canvas, and frame it in a vintage frame. You instantly have a beautiful piece of art that looks authentic and will add an easy dose of holiday spirit to any room in your home.
Holiday Decor
It’s easy to go overboard when it comes to holiday decor, but in my opinion, less is more. I like simple, vintage-inspired pieces, like these bottle brush trees in subtle shades of green and miniature ceramic houses. They are subtle but still festive!
We hope these simple ideas inspire you to decorate your kitchen for Christmas too. Have you started your holiday decorating yet?
