Zoe just celebrated her 8th birthday and she let her creativity shine with a colourful art-themed birthday party! It was such a fun day, and I loved watching Zoe and her friends hone their artistic skills. In honour of her big day, I thought I would share a look back at some of the birthday parties I’ve planned for the girls.
Celebrating our girls’ birthdays with a magical and special day just for them is one of my favourite ways to shower them with love. I understand planning a big party isn’t for everyone, but I love using my creativity and imagination to plan a day they won’t forget.
I try to take into consideration even the tiniest details so that it all feels intentional and perfectly suited to the theme they choose. Every year it gets easier and easier. Each birthday I grow my collection of party essentials (so much of the decor I’ve bought can be reused or repurposed!), and discover tips and tricks to make the process go smoother.
Here’s a look back at some of the special parties we’ve hosted to celebrate the girls’ birthdays…
Simple and Fun Birthday Party Ideas for Kids
Equestrian-Inspired Birthday Party
I had so much fun planning this horse-themed birthday party for Zoe! Nick built this really sweet barn backdrop, and I surrounded it with pink, peach, and coral-coloured balloons. We used her toy horse figurines as part of the party decor and had this amazing two-tiered cake made to represent wild horses running through a meadow.
It all came together so beautifully and was such a fun day.

A Teddy Bear Birthday Party
This was another favourite of mine. I planned this Teddy Bear party for Ella last summer and it was a hit! Our favourite teddy bears joined the party and appeared to be floating away as they held tight to bunches of colourful balloons. And the cake was truly a work of art!

Magical Butterfly Birthday Party
This was a special party we planned for Zoe. It was during the middle of the pandemic so she wasn’t able to have a party with all of her friends and family. We decided to still go all out for her birthday and make it an extra special day. Nick made her cake and we covered our dining room in these dainty colourful butterflies.
It was such a fun surprise for her to come home to.

A Sweet Garden Party
This sweet garden party was another pandemic birthday party, so it wasn’t quite as elaborate as some of the other parties I plan, but it was still so sweet and magical.
We added bunches of pastel-coloured balloons around the backyard and enjoyed these beautiful flower cupcakes.

Magical Circus Birthday Party
This was probably my favourite party so far. It was the first birthday party Zoe celebrated with school friends and it was the party that sparked my love of party planning! I put so much thought into every detail and really loved using my creativity to plan this special day.
Nick built this sweet pink and white striped awning and I made the colourful bunting and, miniature party hats. This was also the very first balloon garland I ever attempted. I’m happy to say, I’ve learned a lot of helpful tricks along the way to make it so much easier now.

Rainbow Birthday Party
Our little Ella’s first birthday party was as happy and colourful as her sweet personality! We hosted a very simple rainbow-themed birthday for her, with a colourful balloon garland, cake, and dresses to match.
