Over the years Nick has honed his woodworking and carpentry skills by taking on our house projects all on his own. From his first build to completely renovating our kitchen and building the girls’ custom playhouse, he embraces each new project as a challenge and a way to improve his skills.
No matter how big or small, we start each new project with a detailed design plan, and then Nick brings it to life. Even after all of these years, I am still amazed that he can create the pieces he does. They are always better than I could even imagine.
Nick’s love of woodworking grew out of the desire to create beautiful and well-made furniture that was within our budget. It’s opened up so many possibilities for us when it comes to renovating and decorating our home and family cottage. I love that we have been able to fill our spaces with timeless pieces that we know will stand up to everyday life.
While we are right in the middle of our cottage remodel, I thought it would be fun to share our favourite woodworking projects.
Custom Built Playhouse
Nick built this adorable playhouse nestled into our backyard, and the girls and I had so much fun decorating it to feel like a cozy little home. We filled it with a play kitchen, whimsical art and some of the sweetest toys I could find.

Transitional Style Sideboard
I love everything about this transitional-style sideboard Nick built for our dining room. Even though it’s brand new, its natural wood colour and antique brass hardware give it the appearance of a time-honoured vintage piece.

Wooden Dollhouse
This dollhouse is near the top of the list for me. It is full of the sweetest details, like a handmade kitchen, cedar shake shingles, and the most beautiful furniture and textiles I’ve ever seen. It’s a dream come true for any little one.

Transitional Style Coffee Table
I first fell in love with this coffee table while we were giving our living room a little update, so Nick built us a similar design. The inset top and tapered legs give it a beautiful traditional look.

Kids’ Play Kitchen
Another dream come true for any little one is a play kitchen that will bring their imagination to life. We surprised our girls with this adorable kitchen and it quickly become a favourite. It now has found the perfect home in their sweet playhouse.

Transitional Style Nightstands
While we just recently finished our bedroom, Nick built these nightstands a few years ago. Their timeless design and classic shape have made them pieces that will never go out of style.

Kitchen Renovation
This was a huge project to take on, but it’s one of my favourites. We turned our outdated kitchen into a beautiful and inviting space that has quickly become the heart of our home. I still can’t believe this is what it used to look like.

Kids’ Book Ledges
We added three simple book ledges to our playroom and it gives us the perfect spot to keep our favourite books within reach throughout the seasons.

Kids’ Swing Set
Nick built this swing set when he built the playhouse and it’s provided the girls with endless hours of fun in our very own backyard. We opted for swings made of wood and rope for a traditional look.

Outdoor Patio Set
Our patio set is definitely our most popular project and with good reason! It’s beautiful, sturdy and classic, everything you want when designing furniture to last.

Kids’ Custom Closet
One thing our house lacks is practical storage space, so we try to make the most of what we do have. We took Ella’s closet from basic to practical with this custom closet system which helps us keep all of her clothes, accessories and toys organized.

Fireplace with Hidden TV
Nick built this fireplace with bi-fold doors that easily open to reveal our TV. We wanted to create a focal point in our living room that didn’t feel focused around a TV, and this was the perfect compromise.

Kids’ Play Table
Our kids have outgrown this little table and chairs now, but while they were small it was the perfect place to colour, create and craft.
