We are nearing the end of our cottage remodel reveal with just two rooms left, the bathroom and the bunk room. Today we are going to share all of the details that went into renovating this simple cottage bathroom to better suit our needs while creating a space that feels bright and open.

The renovation of the bathroom was fairly simple and straightforward, we made a few simple changes that made a big impact. We now have a bathroom that is bright and charming, while functioning so much better for our family.
Before we share the changes we made to the bathroom, take a peek at what this space looked like before the remodel.
The Floor
The biggest change we made in the bathroom was replacing the white and black laminate flooring, as it was stained and starting to warp in places. We decided to use a luxury vinyl tile, as we wanted to be sure all of the materials we used in the cottage remodel were both budget-friendly and durable. We needed flooring that could stand up to wet feet, wet bathing suites and wet towels day after day.
We chose a waterproof luxury vinyl tile in a beautiful dark charcoal colour. It provides a grounding element to balance the softness of the white walls and makes the transition from the wood floors appear more seamless.
This simple change made such a big difference in our tiny cottage bathroom.
The Vanity
In our initial plans for the bathroom renovation, we included a new vanity in natural wood tones to help infuse the space with warmth and texture. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find a vanity that would fit without blocking the door so we kept the existing vanity with a few simple updates.
First, we gave it a fresh coat of paint in a beautiful green-gray hue. I loved the idea of incorporating a touch of green in the cottage and the vanity gave us the perfect opportunity to do so. Complementing this new colour scheme we included antique brass hardware and replaced the original faucet with a beautiful antique-inspired brass fixture. It was really affordable and added so much character to the space.
The Details
Floral Shower Curtain
The existing shower stall included a glass paneled door which we replaced with a whimsical shower curtain in a floral print. It was such an easy and inexpensive update that immediately added a softness to the space that was missing.
Vintage Artwork
I used an antique picture frame to display a sweet vintage print of three young children playing on the shore. I had a lot of fun incorporating coastal-inspired art throughout the cottage, and I thought this playful piece was perfect for the bathroom.
The Lighting
Lighting plays a crucial role in the aesthetic of any room, and because the bathroom is so visible from the rest of the cottage I wanted to be sure to include a light fixture that was full of charm.
I came across this beautiful vintage-inspired ceiling light and knew it was perfect for the space. Its scalloped metal shade in a dark rust finish mimics the appearance of a truly authentic vintage find.
The Window Treatments
To create a feeling of consistency, I repeated the woven wood shades we used in the kitchen throughout the rest of the cottage. We installed them in the bedrooms and the bathroom as well.
These woven wood shades are from one of our favourite companies. We installed the same shades in our own home over seven years ago and have been so happy with them. It was an easy choice to include them in the cottage remodel.
We opted for shades in a dark natural grass material, adding privacy and infusing the space with an organic feel. The dark tone of the shades complements the wood tones we used throughout the cottage, creating a harmonious balance in the overall design.
Our cottage bathroom renovation was all about embracing simplicity and vintage charm. By painting the vanity and incorporating details like an antique-inspired ceiling light, a floral shower curtain and woven wood shades, we created a simple and comfortable space.
