September has always been one of my favourite months. While it’s hard to say goodbye to the carefree days of summer, I look forward to everything the fall season has to offer. Stereotypical but true, I love sweater weather, the changing leaves and the cozy comfort food of autumn. And as the kids return to school, I also love the return to routines. It’s a time to reset our own schedules, recommit to work and take on new projects.
It also means it’s almost time to close our cottage for the season. Back in March, we shared we were taking on the complete remodel of our shared family cottage and it was quite the journey. While we revealed the space room by room over the summer, this month we shared a closer look at the Before and After of the entire cottage. It was so fun to see how far it has come!
Looking back, one of the most impactful changes we made was incorporating beautiful and functional window treatments. Simply incorporating a mix of natural shades and custom drapery elevated the space in a way I didn’t even know was possible. I broke it all down here and here.
So while it’s almost time for us to close up our home-away-from-home for the season, I’ve turned my attention back to our home, slowly incorporating a few thoughtful details throughout to make it feel extra cozy and inviting this season.
As we look ahead to October, our excitement continues to grow as we have two new projects on the horizon – renovating our mudroom and primary closet. We’ll share more about these two projects next month, including our inspiration and the design plan for each!
Natural Shades – These woven wood shades are my absolute favourite window treatments. We have them in our living room, bedroom and both girls’ bedrooms at home, and we used them throughout the cottage. They are beautiful and so well made!
Flush Mount Ceiling Light – This sweet flush mount ceiling light added some much-needed charm to our cottage bathroom. The antique finish and scalloped shade make it so darling.
Rattan Pumpkin – This rattan pumpkin is the perfect example of subtle fall decor. It would look so sweet nestled on a bookshelf or perched on a coffee table this season.
Vintage Fall Art – Vintage art prints depicting nostalgic autumn scenes are an easy way to layer fall elements throughout your home. I added this one to our living room.
Fall Branch – I used two of these beautiful artificial branches in our kitchen this season. It has the most beautiful autumn hues and is ridiculously affordable!
Clay Vase – This vase is a tried and true favourite. It’s the perfect size for coffee tables or consoles, adding natural texture to any space.
Patterned Pillow – This pillow has been a staple in our living room for years, and I love it so much that we ordered two more for our cottage.
Runner – A warm rich palette makes this runner the perfect addition to your home for the fall and winter seasons. I love how cozy it makes our kitchen feel.
Armchair – We have a pair of these armchairs in our living room, the traditional style is perfect and the price is pretty good too!
Tapered Candles – Perfect for Halloween, these tapered candles made it on my list of beautifully spooky Halloween decor this year.
