Last year we accomplished a lot of really fun projects (we shared them all here), namely remodeling our cottage. This year brings a whole new sense of anticipation as we think about the projects we want to take on while embracing a few exciting opportunities. Generally, we start the year by jotting down all of the projects we hope to accomplish in the next twelve months, and while we didn’t complete all of the projects on our 2023 list, we’re excited to roll them forward to this year’s list.
Our 2024 Project List
1. Reconfigure our Closet
This project started last year, and we had great intentions of finishing it before the holidays, but we had to put it on hold after Zoe’s stay in the hospital and the busy holiday season. Now that the new year has arrived, we are excited to move forward with it.
As a refresher, we are partnering with Stor-X to reconfigure the closet in our primary bedroom. This new design and layout will provide functional storage and a beautiful new look for this small space. So far, we have created an initial design plan and worked together with Stor-X to create the perfect layout. We have also removed the current closet system and prepped and painted the space in anticipation of the installation later this week.
2. Laundry Room Renovation
This is another project we hoped to complete last year but didn’t have a chance to tackle. This year, we will finish the demo in the space (we started two years ago when we had to purchase a new washer and dryer) and renovate it to create a beautiful laundry room with much-needed storage.
I envision a space that feels collected and time-worn, featuring a moody colour palette, textural elements and wall-to-wall cabinetry.
3. Changes to the Playroom and Family Room
A few years ago, we added more living space to our home by renovating our basement to create a home office, playroom and family room. It was one of the best decisions we made for our home, as it is now a space we use daily.
More recently, we’ve noticed we are using this space differently. As our girls grow and our needs change, we have found it’s time to make a few subtle changes to our playroom and family room to better suit our family, I think this is a space that will forever be evolving.
4. Replace Our Front Door
This is another project we are rolling over from 2023. It’s a simple update but will make a big impact!
5. Entry/Mudroom Remodel
Quite a few years ago we removed the bi-fold door from the closet in our small entryway to create a “mini-mudroom”, and while we wish this space was much larger, we are making the most of it.
This year we plan to remove the remaining wall to open the space up even more and Nick will build wall-to-wall cabinetry for backpacks, coats and boots. I want this little space to function better for our family while making a statement. We will share the design plans for this remodel very soon!
I am most excited to finish our closet and tackle the laundry room. These two areas require a lot of work to create spaces that feel both beautiful and functional. What project are you looking forward to the most?
