Family photos are more than just pictures; they’re snapshots of who we are, capturing the moments that shape our lives. They deserve a special place in our homes, reminding us of where we’ve been and the people we cherish, while adding a personal touch and fostering a sense of connection.
Incorporating family photos into our homes should go beyond a simple frame on the wall, so today we are sharing three creative ways to display family photos that feel timeless and authentic.
1. Gallery Wall
A carefully curated gallery wall is one of my favourite ways to display family photos. We decided to create one along our stairway not long after moving into our home, and even though we recently updated it, its essence remains unchanged – sharing cherished family memories.
We opted for a mix of brass frames in various sizes, all with mats, to highlight our collection of black-and-white photos. The result? A timeless aesthetic that feels fresh, keeping our favourite memories front and center.
2. Tabletop Frames
Another sweet way to display family photos is with simple tabletop frames strategically placed throughout your home. Whether on consoles, shelves, or side tables, they add a touch of warmth and nostalgia to every space. Keep things interesting by changing the photos from time to time to reflect the changing seasons or milestones in your family’s life.
Tip: I always check our local thrift store for unique and beautiful tabletop frames.
3. Glass Display Box
Capture a sense of nostalgia by displaying a collection of polaroids in a glass display box or decorative bowl. This unique display not only adds a touch of charm to your home but also invites storytelling. Mix and match polaroids capturing candid moments, special occasions, or everyday snapshots of family life. It’s the perfect conversation starter for family and friends as they choose their favourite photo and ask about the story behind it.
I love this idea for displaying photos from our parents and grandparents’ pasts, it’s a beautiful way to hold onto and honour our family history.
Remember, the key to creating a meaningful collection of family photos throughout your home is to infuse it with your personality and style. Blending tabletop frames, polaroids and a curated gallery wall has helped us share our family’s story and create a space that feels warm and welcoming.
