2016 Reader Survey

Yesterday was a special day for us – we have now been on this incredible blogging journey for exactly two years. I shared a few thoughts, along with my advice on starting and growing a blog.

I couldn’t be happier with how far our little blog has come and where this path has lead us. We have had some wonderful opportunities and have made some incredible friendships, all while doing what we love. And we are eager to see where this journey takes us in the months and years to come.

Our number one priority has always been to…

How to Start and Grow a Blog

Today is a special day for us…we’ve been blogging for exactly two years! But it feels like much longer than that, in a good way!

I want to take some time today to talk about how we started our blog and share some advice and resources with you that we have found to be helpful along the way. Blogging is such a diverse and personal medium, so there is no one size fits all formula for success. It’s very difficult to say what worked for us will heed the same results for someone else. But I want to do my best to share what we have learned over the past two years and what has helped us to grow.

And I thought today would be the perfect day to do that.

I’ll start at the very beginning, the basics of setting up…

Bananas Foster French Toast

Breakfast is known as the most important meal of the day. Unfortunately, throughout the week they can be a little bland, not to mention, rushed, as you grab a granola bar, yogurt or bagel as you run out of the house. Saturday and Sunday mornings are reserved for something a little more tasty and satisfying. We definitely believe a good breakfast can set the tone for the rest of your day.

I often enjoy eggs, bacon and toast when we venture out…

The Best Father’s Day Gift

I knew from the moment I met Nick that he was going to be a wonderful husband and an incredible father. He is loving, compassionate, patient, giving, hard-working and has a playful sense of humor (this list could go on and on…).

These are all traits that I am blessed to have in my own father, which in turn greatly encouraged me to find a husband that would live up to this standard.

And I know it is not by chance that Nick encapsulates these features. From the very beginning, in those first few “meet the family encounters”, I knew Nick’s…

DIY Cheese Boards

Picture this….it’s a beautiful and warm summer day and you’re strolling through an open air flea market with a refreshing iced coffee in hand. There is row upon row of vendor’s selling one-of-a-kind vintage items – beautiful handmade quilts, well-loved heirloom furniture, white ironstone pitchers and sweet smelling bouquets of the prettiest flowers you’ve ever seen.

Sound perfect?

I think so too. In fact, it’s probably…

DIY Raised Square Foot Garden

Last week we shared how to plan a raised square foot garden with you. It’s something we’ve wanted to do for a while and we’re so happy with the result. However, we will only deem it a success if we can yield a decent crop. We built this raised garden in a weekend with no firm plans, just a vision, a quick sketch and some modifications along the way. We were inspired by Joanna Gaines farmhouse garden, so we tried to recreate something similar on a smaller scale.

DIY Moss Balls

It is finally starting to feel like spring around here. We have been basking in some much-appreciated warmer weather and of course, the necessary spring showers. The mild temperatures and rain have really made life bloom outside of our windows. I love catching glimpses of the fresh green buds unfurling and delicate little flowers flourishing on tree branches in our yard. There is something about welcoming back longer days, listening to birds happily chirp outside of your window and feeling the temperature slowly creep up that makes you feel a little more joyful.

As I notice this shift outdoors, I begin to mimic it in our home as well. I start to layer in a few key pieces that remind me of spring and summer and the relaxed days ahead. I’m drawn to anything organic…

Planning a Vegetable Garden

We eat a lot of vegetables in our home, especially during the summer months when we grill them on the barbecue or incorporate them into salads. There’s nothing better than the taste of fresh vegetables. However, we try to stay on the natural side of things and we know that most of what you buy in the grocery store has been treated with pesticides and chemicals. There’s also debate as to how fresh they really are considering they travel long distances from the time they are harvested until they finally reach your kitchen…

Modern Farmhouse Neutral Paint Colors

Ever since moving into our house four years ago, we have slowly been painting our way through our home, room by room.

If you’ve been visiting us here on our blog for a while, you’ll know I have mentioned before that the previous owner painted every room in our home beige. We were happy with it when we moved in because it was a neutral we could live with while we settled into our new home together. However, after a while it began to feel tired…

Natural Homemade All Purpose Cleaner

I have always been fairly conscious about the food we eat and the products we use in our home. Although it’s not always easy or convenient, I try my best to buy healthy, unprocessed foods. I am a stickler for always reading the ingredient lists and if I can’t pronounce it I don’t buy it (usually…I have been known to indulge in a bag of greasy potato chips every now and again!).

And I feel the same about the products we use in our home, especially since becoming a mother. I am very conscious that many of the supplies and products we use on…
